Is modal natural or synthetic?
Modal is semi-synthetic — it's made from natural beechwood cellulose but processed into a fiber through a chemical process. It's often grouped with rayon and viscose as 'regenerated cellulose' fibers.
Is modal eco-friendly?
Modal production uses a closed-loop solvent process that recovers and reuses 95%+ of the solvent. Beech trees are a renewable resource. Lenzing (the main modal producer) has FSC certification for their wood sources.
Can you do modal-spandex blends?
Yes — 95/5 and 92/8 modal-spandex blends are common for stretch underwear, leggings, and fitted apparel.
